Digital Story Telling Global Warming
("Digital Storytelling", 2020)
In a time of digital learning how can we continue to incorporate storytelling within our classrooms? Digital storytelling is a great way to share stories and information in person or online. Students and educators can create digital stories based on the curriculum using instructional technology and course materials (Özüdoğru, 2020).
One way to incorporate student driven digital storytelling is through the use of the program Adobe Spark Video. Students can gain access with their school email address to the Adobe Spark suite through a district wide subscription. Adobe Spark includes options to create flyers, social media posts, collages, web pages, videos, and more. Adobe Spark Video begins with the option of four templates or you can start from scratch. The template options include promote and idea, tell what happened, a hero's journey, and show and tell. Once a template is chosen, a quick video of tips and tricks will play. Spark Video includes a storyboard timeline and preview box. If the student decides to select a template, each slide will be labeled with information that they should include in their story. For example, when and where did this happen? How did it end? etc. Once the students have created their story, they are able to preview their creation. Afterwards, they can share their creation through publishing it, inviting others to view it, or sending it to their Google Drive. They are also able to download their creation. These features allow for a variety of ways to view and share each student's creation.

My seventh grade students will be creating a digital story explaining and describing global warming and how we can reduce our impact on the earth. This digital story must include pictures, descriptions, video clips, and text. The digital story must contain at least seven digital slides to fully present their story. An example of what the storyboard looks like can be seen in the image below. The purpose of this story is to share important information in a creative way. After creating their projects the students will share their video with family and community members to help spread awareness.
